Travel on the Side

Deep fried treats, animals, rides–it’s the Wisconsin State Fair in West Allis. The most sought-after and popular delicacy is the cream puff. People wait in long lines for this tasty treat. I had to go and experience it myself. It’s worth the wait!

Ahh…summer in Milwaukee. Time to take advantage of the nice temps and sunny skies. There’s lots to do. Three of my favorite places include the Milwaukee County Zoo, the lakefront at Bradford Beach, and some food at the Northpoint custard stand.

The Wiouwash State Trail in Wisconsin (the name is taken from the four counties it traverses: Winnebago, Outagmie, Waupaca, and Shawano) consists of two segments. I bike and hike on the southern segment in Outagamie and Winnebago counties, near Appleton. The trail here runs for 22 miles. A former railroad bed, it’s a nice, rural trail to explore and perfect for hiking and biking.

Surrounding the campus of the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay is the beautiful Cofrin Memorial Arboretum, featuring several miles of hiking and biking trails. It’s perfect for any season, but summer is my favorite.
