Back from La Crosse, Wisconsin for a work conference. In the early morning I took a walk along the Mississippi River. Later that evening, I had a nice walk through the downtown area. Wish I had more time to explore!

My hunch is that not a lot tourists in New Orleans venture beyond the French Quarter. That’s a shame as there are plenty of other things to see. From Canal Street, we boarded the Algiers Ferry (also called the Canal Street Ferry) to take the 10 minute trip across the Mississippi River. Ahh, the French Quarter of New Orleans: equal parts good food, drunk people, and colorful buildings. Give yourself plenty of time to explore on foot. Besides hitting the usual spots of Bourbon Street, Jackson Square, and Cafe du Monde, allow time to explore all of the side streets.The New Orleans CVB has a nice walking map for self-guided tours.
