After getting up early to see the Golden Gate Bridge on Mother’s Day, mom and I drove the rental car north on California Highway 1 – a beautiful twisty-turny drive – to Point Reyes National Seashore in Marin County. Our first stop was in the town of Inverness, along the Tomales Bay (part of the San Andreas fault) to see the Point Reyes shipwreck. There were lots of professional photographers out that… Read More

Started the morning in Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada. Just finished a work conference there. My plan was to drive to Hopewell Rocks and then along the coast on my way back to Maine (I had flown into Bangor). Well…this morning the whole coast was socked in by fog and it was raining pretty steadily. So I went to plan B. I’m calling it: The Day I Crossed the US/Canada Border 5 Times…. Read More

I’m back home in Wisconsin now. My dad passed away after a brief illness. After tending to things at my parents’ house, I decided to take the “long” way back to Wisconsin from Indiana. North to Interstate 75, across the Mackinac Bridge, west through the Upper Peninsula, and down to Wisconsin. This was my dad’s favorite drive–especially the Mackinac Bridge. I think he would be proud. I spent the night in St…. Read More

Got up early and drove to the Lake Michigan shore to catch the sunrise (around 6:50am Central time) at the Algoma Pierhead Light in Algoma in Kewaunee County, Wisconsin. A lone fisherman was out on the breakwater. A perfect, it bit chilly, start to the day!

Took a vacation day and ventured up to Door County before summer visitors take over. It was a late May Friday and I still felt like I had a lot of the county to myself. First I drove to the Sturgeon Bay Ship Canal Pierhead Light. Some people think it’s off limits, but it’s not. Just pay attention to the signage and don’t walk on to the U.S. Coast Guard property. After… Read More

Spring has been late in coming to Wisconsin. After work, I ventured over to Algoma, Wisconsin to take some photos of the Algoma Pierhead Light on Lake Michigan. By the time I was done, my fingers were freezing! A stiff breeze was coming off of the lake and it sure didn’t feel like late May. Hope warmer weather comes soon!

Oh fickle Lake Michigan weather! We took a Sunday trip to Point Beach State Forest on Lake Michigan, near Two Rivers, Wisconsin. The sun was shining and we had blue skies when we got there. Then fogged rolled in off of the lake followed by clouds and then some peaks of sunshine. Hiked on a few of the trails through the forest, on the beach, and near the Rawley Point Lighthouse.

Brrr! It was a cold sunset at Cana Island Light in Door County, Wisconsin. A stiff breeze was coming in off of Lake Michigan, but it was so worth it. Beautiful!

The Portland Head Light is iconic New England. So much so that once when I was at the Red Lobster it was the cover photo on their menu. I had wanted to get some sunrise shots and decided today was the day. So I got up early and drove over from Manchester, New Hampshire. Located in Cape Elizabeth, near Portland, the lighthouse sits in Fort Williams Park. It was commissioned by President… Read More

Decided to get up early and take a drive along the southern Maine coast. Leaving Manchester, New Hampshire, I headed over to Interstate 95 which becomes the Maine Turnpike. I exited on to US Highway 1 and then took 1A through York Harbor, York Beach, and Cape Neddick. After that, I headed back to US Highway 1 until it came to Maine Highway 5 and that took me into Old Orchard Beach…. Read More
