Hiking Diamond Head

Diamond Head is a must-do when in Honolulu! It’s on the other side of the Waikiki resort area. You can walk, but it’s a bit far. You can take a taxi, but that can get expensive. We opted for the public bus. It was convenient–we picked it near our hotel in Waikiki and were dropped off at a community college near Diamond Head. The cost is $5 round trip per person.
From the bus stop, it was about a half-mile walk into the Diamond Head crater. Pedestrian entry is $1 per person. After passing the entry booth, it’s a 0.8 mile hike to the top, with switchbacks, stairs, and a tunnel! The hike is worth it–beautiful sweeping views of Honolulu and the Pacific Ocean.
Since it was Saturday, after the hike we stopped at the farmers’ market at Kapi’olani Community College. Good idea! Had macadamia nut pancakes with fresh bananas and a pineapple & ginger smoothie!
