SoCal: Trip in Review

Back from sunny Southern California. Great trip! I was in Anaheim to give a presentation at a work conference, but scheduled vacation time before it. Good decision.

Flew into LAX (the prices were better than Orange County). Didn’t want to deal with LA traffic, so we skipped a rental car. Never came to regret it either. We used Super Shuttle to take us to our hotel in Anaheim.

We avoided the expensive Disneyland Resort hotels and stayed at Best Western Plus Pavilions on Katella Avenue. For around $95/night we had an affordable hotel room with a pool that was only a 10-15 minute walk to the Disneyland gate. It’s no frills, but we had an excellent stay and the staff were helpful in arranging day trips.

There were lots of places to eat in Downtown Disney (outside of the park gates) and along Katella Avenue at the Anaheim Gardenwalk.

Of course, the most expensive thing is the park pass. You need to decide what’s best for you and how much time you want to give each park. For us, one day at Disneyland and one day at Disney California Adventure worked. We got the 2-day (1 park per day) pass. And we used the WHOLE day each day: we were there from open to close and felt like we got to see EVERYTHING we had wanted to see.
